L’adeguamento in sede dell’A3 ha di fatto richiesto la demolizione-ricostruzione di molti viadotti in calcestruzzo armato. La scelta, audace, di procedere in taluni casi all’abbattimento dei manufatti tramite esplosivi, ha permesso di ricavare una formula speditiva utile al progettista per il calcolo della velocità di vibrazione indotta.

In order to comply with the latest European Highway Standards, the highway Salerno – Reggio Calabria, in southern Italy, had do be widened and up graded to reduce its vulnerability to earthquakes. Reinforced concrete viaducts, no longer needed for the new road, had to be demolished. M any bridges still to be used for the highway required refurbishment due to 50 years of wind, frost and salt corrosion. This refurbishment and new constructions had to be carried out simultaneously. To keep the highway open during the renewal process, all traffic was directed to one side of the road.
